ABOUT DR. SYDNEY PROFFER
Dermatologist, educator, and advocate for healthier skin
My Journey in Dermatology
Dr. Proffer has always been fascinated by the stories skin tells about our health, habits, and history. This fascination led her to dermatology, where science, artistry, and personal connection meet.
Her path began at Middlebury College, where she studied Neuroscience with a Mathematics minor. She then attended medical school at Mayo Clinic, where she completed her dermatology residency. There, she discovered her passion for treating skin cancer and complex skin conditions in an environment that emphasized technical excellence and compassionate care.
Dr. Proffer completed dual fellowship training at Northwestern University under AAD President Murad Alam, specializing in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery for skin cancer and Cosmetic Dermatology. She also holds a Master’s in Healthcare Delivery from Arizona State University, which equips her with insights into healthcare systems that enhance her patient-centered approach.

My Approach to Patient Care
When I meet a new patient, I see more than just a skin condition—I see a person with unique concerns, questions, and goals. My approach begins with listening carefully to understand not only what’s happening with your skin, but how it affects your daily life and well-being.
I believe strongly in education as part of treatment. When patients understand their skin conditions and the reasoning behind treatment recommendations, they become active partners in their care and typically see better outcomes. This is why I take the time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive measures in clear, accessible language.
My practice combines evidence-based medicine with personalized care. While I stay current with the latest research and techniques, I also recognize that the “best” treatment is the one that works for your unique situation and aligns with your values and preferences.
Beyond the Clinic
My commitment to dermatology extends beyond patient care to education. I share skin health information through media appearances, talks, and podcasts, translating complex concepts into practical advice.
I’ve discussed topics like skin aging after menopause on SiriusXM Doctor Radio and contribute regularly to the “Derm Surgery Digest” podcast. I’ve also presented at conferences, including “Survival Skills for Today’s Gynecologist,” American Academy of Dermatology meetings, and specialized forums like “Mohs at the Lake.”
My research includes numerous peer-reviewed publications on skin cancer epidemiology, regenerative treatments, and innovative surgical approaches.
